Brand new truck and JL Audio setup...

If any of you have read any of my threads lately, I've been preparing to get a new 06 Toyota Tundra Access cab next year. Well, I went and test drove one last Friday and was greeted with an excellent interest rate. For the month of November I can get a 3.9% fixed interest rate over a 60month period. So I decided that since my birthday is next Saturday and I wanted this truck anyways, I'm getting it Friday.

Now onto the stereo. I've decided on an all JL Audio setup, minus my Pioneer Premier 860MP HU. I plan on going with the 10w3v2 Stealthbox that hides away in the center console. I have to wait until around March for this as JL's manufacturing plant was smashed by Hurricane Wilma. I'm going to power it with the JL 250/1 mono block.

The stock stereo system has a 6.5" component setup in each of the front doors. The rear doors have 6.5" speakers in them. I planned on getting two sets of JL Audio XR650-CSi's and powering them with the JL 300/4 multi channel.

My question is, will any part of this be overpowering to the point where I'm hearing my components over my sub, etc. Would having two component sets be too much? Should I just get a pair of 6.5"s for the back and be done with it? I really don't want to cut any holes in a brand new car for the tweeters. If I absolutely have to, I'll get the rear speakers done professionally, so I don't screw anything up.

Also, since it's a new truck, should I go out and buy a repair manual to figure out how to rip all the carpeting up and take apart the doors for dampening? Speaking of dampening, what's a good product? I want to do my system right this time, and not 'ghetto' like the last two were.

My motto this time, new truck, new stereo, no sign of an upgrade.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

That's not "overpowering", that's doing something correctly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif You want to hear your front stage over your subwoofers...unless you like listening to nothing but bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

For imaging reasons, I wouldn't go with two component sets. If you really feel the need for rear fill, run a set of coaxials in back and power them off the head unit's internal amplifier.

Ok the JL comps can handle up to 70W RMS. I just found that there is a JL 500/5 amp. 250W RMS Sub channel, and then 4 more channels. 2 x100RMS and 2x25RMS. How could I hook the comps up to the 100w channels without blowing them? If this is possible I might as well just get one amp to run everything instead of two seperate, as I'll save about 50$ in the process. About a set of 6.5 coaxials for the back, what would be a good JL recommendation?

Edit:

Or should I get a pair of the JL XR650-CXi Coaxials, and keep the 300/4 amp and run the components and the coaxials off of that?

nice truck. Mines an 01. For door panel removal you can join http://www.tundrasolutions.com

to me the 500/5 seems like a slick choice. The only down side is if the amp is too big. i've Seen JL amps behind the rear seat, but i couldn't get my gear to fit (There are also directions for this on tundrasolutions). I wouldn't run the rears with the same power level as the fronts( ie 300/4), but that's just me.

Well with the 500/5 I could run the components off the 100w channels, run the 6.5" coaxials off the 25w channels, and the sub off the 250w sub channel. If I have to, I'll rip out the passenger side storage well, and place the amp in there. I'll figure something out.

The only problem is, how do I adjust the amp to only push 70w to each component seeings as that's there max rms, and each channel will push 100w.

Don't worry about the extra power. Think of this, your amp does not go from 0 direct to 100, it goes to all points in between. As such your speaker will take power in bursts from your amp. I would not be worried at all about this amount of power in the speakers. I think that you are by far and away on a much better track with the 5 channel amp approach and combine it with components up front and a good coax in the rear.

As far as products go, we all hear different. Before you run out and buy speakers, find out exactly what can be made to fit where and then buy speakers that you like the sound of. For all we know Sparkomatic speakers might sound better to you. If you really want to step up for good sound, not that Pioneer is a bad head unit at all, Eclipse will bury it for tonal response that you will hear in the blink of an eye. Consider this as well, no need to go higher than the CD5435 model.

Buy a DMM for 20 bucks and you can set the amplifier to produce any amount of power you choose. But I'm sure you can feed those components an extra 30 watts daily. It's not like you're using a full 100 watts every time you turn on the radio. I'm feeding my components (50 wRMS) double their rated power and theyre taking it nicely.

Nice sounding setup, even know you could do better and save money. Dont get me wrong JL makes good stuff just they are overpriced. I think you will be good with that 5 channel amp. If it was though I would do the 300/4 on front componets and 6.5 coxials in the back and get the 500/1 for the bass. Those woofers could take more than 250. But then again that is even more money. Bye the way awesome truck!
