Brand new batt draining fast?

I just installed my cl800 in my new car. It is a 83 cutlass ciera. Im thinking that my alternator kicks off of something cause when i hook up the amp and start my car, my volume isnt up much at all and after like 5 min it just dies and the battery is drained all the way. Im not sure how many amps my stock alt is but im sure its not over 80. Anyone know whats wrong? Ive also checked all my connections and they are fine. The only other thing I think would be bad is the remote wire on the knu konceptz rcas, its really small.

The remote wire doesn't have to be very big, and it wouldn't drain your batt if it was defective (unless it stayed on all the time), it would just shut down your amps.

bad alt, not a battery problem.

If you can get it started, the battery isn't at fault. Does it run without any stereo equipment on?

if it starts disconnect the + from the battery... if it dies.. its the alt.

Im gonna try this after work tomorrow.

Yes it stays running if I disconect the amp at the fuse but my charge battery light stays on.
