Bound to bring up some debate, but I'll ask anyways...

I am considering buying a cap for my system. Basically, the only reason I am considering it is because, from what I've read, it stores some of the power that runs to the amp as it hits the cap, slowing the drain on the battery and the strain on the alternator. Then again, I've heard so much "they work" vs. "hell no, they're pointless" that I'm not clear on the direction I should look in.

Another question with a cap is: With a slower power drain (if that much is true about a cap), would it improve the performance of my amp, since it is drains the power differently or whatever?

So yeah, who knows...maybe this will help me in my decision. Either way, thanks for any help, in advance.

A cap dumps it's power almost instantaneously. Then requires recharging. It is actually a drain on the alternator. A cap nor a battery make power on their own. They both require charging by the alt. Some people swear by them. I personally only use a cap when I have very slight dimming. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

actually for spl/burping they are useless, but for sq which uses actual music it could possiblt help dips in the voltage due to smaller bass hits.
