I'm at the border. Coming back into Canada from the US.
Have a package in my car. Border dude says he wants to look at it. Fine.
Says it doesn't look like a $XXX speaker. Uh yeah man, that's what the receipt says it is.
So we go in, and he asks me if the shipping charge is included in the total price of the woofer.
Question #1 - Why would I get taxed on a SERVICE? Shipping is a SERVICE I paid for. Last time I checked and read the points regarding free trade, etc ... a SERVICE wasn't a GOOD.
Question #2 - Does anyone here work at a border? Are you a reject from society or an convicted criminal who was trained to work at the border? That's what the one who helped me out was. Spent quite a few years in jail and openly admits it. Cool guy and all, but shit ... actually, he's still convinced that a birth certificate is proof of citizenship.
3rd year of my post secondary education down in the US @ Washington State (Go Cougs Go!). I've done it twice before ... so I figured instead of holding all of the traffic up behind me I'd just pull over to the side before the border where the semi's pull over because they're too tall to fit under the clearance sign. Buddy in the building there turns on the siren and the next thing I know I have four drawn customs officials outside of my vehicle. Another year the offical happened to have a big fat chawskie in ... yeah that's fine, kind of unprofessional but whatever, I didn't care, until it dribbled off his chin and down the side of my car.
One thing I do like ... I've brought $5000+ worth of merchandise down there to ship via UPS without getting drilled at the border. Talk about awesome one-way free trade.
Ah well, I'm just *****ing and complaining. Anyone else have any good border stories? Or how about you American guys ... any problems coming into Canada or going back to the US?
