Rattling isn't necessarily indicative of overall loudness but rather failure to properly deaden various panels.

I know what you are talking about, and usually it's just because their trunk isn't properly adjusted to be closed all the way (it's not tight). To me, it is a sign of laziness, because they obviously know that the trunk is rattling.
