boat installation

I own an 82 ski nautique 2001. it has a head unit and 2 speakers. the head unit is as old as the boat, and so are the speakers. neither of them work well at all.

I looked at the wires going to and from the stock headunit, and alot of them are notted with other wires to the dash, and it all looks really complicated.

I was hoping to take my stock jeep grand cherokee head unit, and buy a few speakers, and then run new wires for the headunit. Im wonder how i would go about running a headunit and speakers, (maybe eventually an amp) off just a battery.

is it possible? it seems like it would be easier then dealing with the stock wires and wire harnesses and such.

thanks

Most boats use a common ground system. You are going to have to run new speaker wires to all the speakers. I know some boats starter act as an alternator. Idk about yours.

Ski nautiqes are nice boats //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif my ex had one.

yea i was plannin on using all new wires and such. just to avoid the stock headunit wiring that looks alot more complicated.

anyone know how to wire a headunit off a battery?

I don't understand the problem?

It's no different than a car.

Wire the constant to the battery and use the key for the switched source.

If your boat didn't have an alternator you'd be going through a battery every other trip to the lake. It's most likely a 351 Ford setup. Should be pretty straightforward.

yea it is a 351 ford.

so all i need to do is splice a switched source wire into the stock key wire, adn then wire the constant to the + of the battery?

that doesnt sound too hard.

i havent installed any head unit before on a boat or a car. the only installs i have done have just been speakers amps and subs for some friends, where the headunit was already in the car.
