birch vs mdf weight

whats the diff between 7ply and 13 ply?
With more layers, there is a more uniform density as the knots that you get will be for a smaller layer. I've also been told that the cheaper birch (ie. the "premium" birch at home depot vs real baltic birch) uses other types of wood, or lesser quality birch, for the inner and bottom layers. One side will have a nice look while the other side will look ghetto and not pretty.

yep, thats true, worked at home depot, their lumber selection was shit. We always were marking shit down because it was such bad quality, we always had som many complaints about the wood.
