Has anyone else checked out Bill Maher's documentry called "Religulous". It's freakn' brain candy for the free thinker and its quite hillarious at the same time.

Here are some quotes from the movie :

Bill Maher: George Bush prayed a lot about Iraq, but he didn't learn a lot about it.

Bill Maher: Faith means making a virtue out of not thinking. It's nothing to brag about. And those who preach faith and enable and elevate it are intellectual slave holders, keeping mankind in a bondage to fantasy and nonsense that has spawned and justified so much lunacy and destruction.

Bill Maher: Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don't have all the answers to think that they do. Most people would think it's wonderful when someone says, 'I'm willing Lord, I'll do whatever you want me to do.' Except that since there are no gods actually talking to us, that void is filled in by people with their own corruptions and limitations and agendas.

Check it out if you can... and for those whom have seen it .... discuss.

I'm pretty much anti-religion and don't believe in fairy tales, but I thought Religulous wasn't much of a documentary, it was Bill Maher taking his standup on the road to religious people.

Some good questions and points were made, some of it was Maher just being highly disrespectful to people of faith.

It was the Borat of the religious rings, I wasn't too impessed

Haven't checked it out yet, but plan on getting it. I like Bill Maher a lot, watch his show all the time. He definitely can lack tact from time to time, but I think he's a smart guy with a lot of good points.

Saw it the first weekend it was out with my girlfriend. I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity of the crowd: it made me feel not quite so alone.

That said, Religulous is a fine movie for the casual debater or disbeliever. It emphasizes marginal behaviour, mostly, but does relate to the moderate (or "rational") religious as well. It's a good movie for a laugh but only scrapes the surface of the intellectual arguments.

religion to me is just like Santa or the Easter bunny. The only reason people really believe it is because of how old it is, Jesus Christ may of been a real person, But lets face it, hes just the same as Tom Cruise in Scientology.

agreed 100 percent

I will probably like it, ill check it out.

To me religion is a way to control people and always has been. For some people its good though as some people need a place to belong or they need faith to believe in something in hard times. To me its like pay me money and do what I say and you will go to 'heaven', if not you are going to HELL!
