Bikes are f-ing expensive...

This kinda partains to my other thread, that somehow just dissapeared after 3 pages...

Im looking for a bike for this summer, and decided on the R6, i was going to buy it on ebay, witch kinda sucks since you cant test drive it or really check it out other then pictures... but oh well

Even still though, sport bikes are so f-ing expensive, i have yet to find an r6 under 4 grand, its also going to be another $900+ for freight, since the cheapest ones in my area i could actually go look at and stuff are all over $5,500

Im just curious, why the hell are they so expensive USED, am i missing something?

Also is there a special site to buy used bikes or something i dont know about that has them cheaper then ebay?

you missed the perfect time to buy, its kinda the trail end of it. late fall and early winter are the best because people try to sell before having to store them. right now a lot of people have the same thoughts as you, planning for this coming warm season.

and just give it some time, my buddy's 99 R6 was just under 4 grand and it was custom painted and in extremely good shape... so its all possible.

lol jet ski's arnt all much expensive... depends what you get. I've got 2 yamahas, but now that i look at it they did get expensive as hell, I remember when they were down by 4k-7k

just look closer, put the word out youre looking for one. my buddy has a 88 ninja and a car hit him on it going like 5mph. he didnt get hurt, just tore most of the plastic off the bike. he was in midts of fixing it and one of his friends knew someone selling an 01 gsxr 750. youll never believe that he only paid $2300 for an 01 gsxr. you just got to look closer around you. oh and like mentioned above, late fall into winter is the best time to get them.

i've owned a few bikes and rode for many years. i've seen ~20 wreck where people were trying to ride faster than their bikes or selves were able. most of the wreck with safety gear were a hassle because we had to get the dude a ride home and pick up bike pieces. most of the wrecks without safety gear involved waiting around for police and ambulances.

i was a fairly responsible rider for the mostpart(...well, i tried to be responsible...), but, had that wreck without any gear on. after ~3months down and ~$30k worth of hospital bills, i will never be fully recovered and am covered in scars. all i recommend now is: buy safety gear and wear it before you go riding.

Kind of hard to go WOT on a bike and do jumps and turns and what not... Well without killing yourself, anyway...

I bought mine for $6k with trailor, used back in 2000. I replaced the engine ($1100) after about a year when my buddy ran it out of oil. After that, I had to replace the drive shaft ($200) and went a head a put an after market impeller and propshaft ($250) on it. And then, I hydro-locked it doing tricks and threw a rod. I'm replacing the engine ($1350) again in a couple of months... It adds up over the years, but I have put a lot of hours on it. First year I had it, it went from 80 hours to 190. I've had my fun with it...
