bigger or smaller?

ive got a 15 hcca 4.35ft^3 ported @31. i think i want it tuned higher. i want the punchiness that my 12s used to have. should i make the box smaller, bigger, tune higher, seal it what? i dont have a ssf, so what should i do if i tune higher?

tuning higher will make it less musical, more "one-noted", and more loud.

Making the box slightly smaller should increase the "punchiness", but also increase power requirements.

so smaller will be punchier? how much smaller? what about tuning? i like the lows but i want it louder. can i tune high w/o a SSF?

anyone? suggestions? i tried facing the sub up, all that did was make it louder outside the car still no change in the car.
