Best SQ amp of these two...

Amps aren't SQ necessarily, but some amps work better for sound quality than say strickly SPL which to my recollection is what US amps is used for the majority of the time. I know people that use Arc and like it. I haven't used their amps ever, but I have used their speakers and was happy with them for sound quality. Arc would be my choice, but once again if you can listen then do it and make your own opinion.

This isn't me trying to start a fight, but rather curiousity. Would an amp having lower THD be cleaner and therefore have better sound quality than a higher THD amp? Old school U.S. amps were something like .006 THD maybe more, would that be "cleaner" sounding than a .1 THD amp?

Thanks for the info.

No, there would be no audible difference because the percentage of distortion, for both, is still below the audible threshold.

If they are both below ~2% THD, then you will likely not hear a difference between them.

Audibility of distortion is dependant upon many variables such as frequency, etc. 3% distortion at 2500hz is completely different than 3% distortion at 25hz. The distortion at 2500hz may be audible, the distortion at 25hz probably wouldn't be.

Also, the difference between even and odd order distortion. Even order is typically thought of as "warm" and "pleasing"...which is why tube amps are liked so much, high even order distortion. Whereas odd order distortion is very unpleasant to the ear. So 5% of even order distortion might not sound as bad to your ear as 3% of odd order distortion.

Well that makes more sense! I really want to try out a U.S. amps TU series and see how it sounds. Guess I'll have to splurge //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for the information, I understand leaps-and-bounds more now!!

Recoil 2500.1 $179 2500 x 1 @ 1 ohm. Make sure subs are the dual 4 ohm version. If you don't want that much power, get the Recoil red1200.1 for 1...

Have an Xli 2500 as a sub amp in the music room, overkill for sure, never overheats, never skips a beat.
