best amp for sg

Front speakers focal krx2 6.5 rear speakers focal pc710. Amps to choose from are 2 eclipse pa4212 one eclipse xa4000 or steg k4.02 or old rockford fosgate 400a4 or new ppi pc 650.2 steg k2.03.looking for nice warm mid bass sound

Get the most power you can afford. You won't hear a difference between any of those amps.

Nope.

But if it helps you justify it, get the most expensive one- because obviously the more expensive it is, the better it sounds, right?

Not at all my fave are old high powered alpine they are responsible price used and sound vg. But are very hard to find . Sice u said go with the most powerful i am thinking of going with ppi pc 650.2 for the front and the steg k2.03 for rear . I would use the steg up front but they are 2ohm speakers and with the steg it would be like 550rms to each driver

amps do sound different. If you can't tell either you are not listening close enough or not in the right envirment. Mostly older ABs and cheap or first era class D full ranges. Coloration, noise, RCA quality.

Not as noticeable in sub amps.

Yes for sure huge difference in the sound of amps . Thinking about running a ppi pc 650.2 on my focal they have same components as the new soundstream reference. Of course difrent lay out but a lot of same components

Agree and agree again. Amps that lack power produce distortion because whoever bought it wants to get loud and clear without paying for it. Quality amps that have sufficient power for your application will sound the same. If amps start to sound different, it's probably because one of them is garbage. NoLoud, I guarantee that if you and I swap our front stage amps, it will sound the same. Why? Ample power, solid design.

Ya probably true that every amp sounds the same in some way or another. But i think to do this to make them sound exactly the same u would need a good dsp and be very good at setting them.

I'd worry about getting best speakers you can afford before concerning yourself with SQ of an amp. Sh*tty speakers will sound that way on any amp. The nice "warm" midbass sound will be produced by the speakers. I wouldn't hesitate sticking on of those PPIs on them as long as it has enough power for those speakers.

I've done it before. 450/4 to HD600/4. Every thing was the same, direct swap. The difference was easy to spot. Power was about the same set with DMM. Both had RIPs. The 600/4 was no where as dynamic and much more bottom heavy.

I'm this scenario amps DID NOT SOUND THE SAME.

You like testing stuff. I'm sure you have a RTA. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do this.

Set EQ flat and run pink noise at different volume levels. Record SPL and curve

Swap amps and set power the same. Do it again.

See if the curve is different.

This will bust it or confirm it for the most part, separation can't be tested that way though

I believe I've read that in this challenge the amplifiers would be manipulated so they all measure the same. If the different amplifiers then measure within certain tolerances, levels were matched precisely, etc. they should sound the same. In the real world nobody is going to go through that effort when changing amplifiers. They're going to hook the **** up, hopefully then adjust the gain in a sane manner, and play the system. Our aural memory is too short to accurately remember exactly how the system sounded, so of course one can hear differences with the other amplifier. What we hear is entirely in the mind, which is an unreliable thing.
