Long question but this'll save y'all some time asking me stuff I didn't specify. Trying to give as much info as possible. I'm looking for power at 2 ohms.
Current gear:
kenwood x998
08zx1000.1
stock electrical besides big 3 (stock alternator is 110 amp). I may add second batt soon if advised
Factory infinity speakers/tweets/amp (Lancer Ralliart factory upgraded sound package)
ppi900.4 phantom on the way, along with undecided speakers
Flexible budget, around 200-400$
I'm looking to buy a new amp for my SA-15. My amp doesn't audibly distort super terribly but it is enough to heat the voice coil up pretty bad when it's at wide open volume for a bit. I will smell hot voice coil but only after a pretty long time at max or near max. The gain is definitely set correctly. It has to be the amp. I looked up the specs for it and compared it to some others...the S/N ratio is the lowest I've ever seen. Think it was like 60 db. (lots of amps have this spec in the 90's) And thd of 1 percent. (NOT "
My sub also hits a fraction of a second late. Very little delay really but it is noticeable. It is for these reasons that I'm upgrading my amp now. I will possibly be upgrading the sub(s) later on but I'm not entirely sure, so don't base recommendations on that alone. If I upgrade the sub I'll be upgrading alt/batts, too. But, that would be months from now.
I've heard the sa-15 maxes out on 1500 watts. I'm not sure if that's nominal rms wattage or clamped power... I'm assuming clamped. So, what amp would be a nice upgrade from my current one? I know this thing can take a lot more power. It's loud as crap but the cone isn't traveling anywhere close to its ~40mm xmax.
Because of all the glowing positive reviews on the ppi900.4, I decided to look into Precision Power. Their top model, BA7000.1D, actually provides less power than the cheaper ba5000.1d at 2 ohms. (Because the 7000 can apparently be wired to .5 ohm nominal, 3500wrms). The 5000 does 1700w rms at 2 ohms. Found it on sonicelectronics for a great price, $183.99:
Precision Power PPI BA5000.1D 5000W Black Ice Mono Class D Amplifier
Also, I'm considering this. Copious headroom with 3000wrms 2 ohm 12.6v:
Taramp's HD-3000 2 ohm High Power Car Audio Amps from Brazil at DJ Stage Gear
And this:
Audiopipe APCL-30001D (apcl30001d) 3000W Consumer Line Series
(3000w at 2ohm, $344.99)
Also heard good things about American Bass, would that be a better option than the above?
One more thing, I promise lol... Would most amps / all these be able to connect to the remote gain bass knob I already have installed in my car? That is a must because it's installed next to the left of my HU in a drilled hole and I would really like/need to keep it.
