I currently own a Behringer EP2500 that i purchased from PE when they were on sale a long time ago. I have yet to use it because i have had no use up untill just recently. I havnt opened it because i keep thinking that i might sell it and buy something a lil higher quality because i hear mixed things about Behringer. Im not that up on h/t, home audio and pro gear like i am car audio so im wonder what peoples thoughts are on behringer? Should i sell it and upgrade to something like a QSC? Also what active crossover would you recommend to run a sub?

Thanks

Corey

Yah, definitely mixed things about the Behringer amps. It's a love or hate situation for those things dude. And the amps either love or hate you too. You either have a unit that will break or perform like a workhorse. But, those faulty units were common a while back, maybe like two years ago. I do a little bit of DJ/Pro Sound work on the side and I've got a QSC RMX2450 powering a set of EAW FR-129z's and it works great. Warranty is wonderful on it too. It's 6 years transferable- and I doubt it'll be broken even by then.

Also, what are you going to use the amp for? Any Rane or DBX crossover would be fine.

Well after doing some more research it looks like it would be best for me to sell the EP2500 and pick something up a little better quality. Not sure what im going to get, just need something that does 2400-3000rms @ 4.

Look at binks proamp tests to get an idea on which amps will do that power you desire.

Also notice the power levels can be much different if you have a strong ac line or a weak one.

The best amp right now for the job you seek would be trying to find a used Crown CE4000,

$500 - $800 price range, RMX4050 or RMX5050 would be also good. Crown Xs900 was

tested recently @ 2200w @ 4 ohms with 120VAC input, not bad. The price is nice. Crown

Xs1200 would offer a litte more watts, maybe around 2500w.

Gonna power a 06 RE XXX 15"

More importantly, the design of the subwoofer [woofer + box] will dictate what power is

really needed, ie and OB sub will only need on average maybe 200w to drive it to xmax,

EBS type of sub will probably operate well with 500w - 1000w. Standard sealed box design

may require more, will require more if you EQ the low end.

What you need to do is model your sub design first to see what the power requirement is.

That EP2500 can easily work in certain sub design, but others design it may not have enough

power. The higher powered proamps with 'real' high power arn't cheap.
