Bass sounds amazing at low volume but not as good turned up

Finally got my system installed. The sub sounds amazing at low volumes, but when i turn it up it is not as clean. But i haven't messed with any of the settings on the amp. Its almost like the 5x7s i put in are making the bass sound bad when i turn it up because i adjusted the settings on my head unit. Is this a case of it just not being properly tuned?

Also, i have an 200 amp alternator and an optima yellow battery. But i am still getting the dimming lights when the bass hits. Will a cap solve this? I know most of you guys hate them, but with all the other upgrades to the electrical system shouldn't a cap fix this. Really don't want to put another battery in the back.

Edit: I really have no clue what i'm doing with the settings of it. Seems like that's the majority of my problem, but new to this.

Thanks for all the help guys

Greatly appreciated

The lack of clean bass at higher volumes makes me think there is distortion present. Such as clipping. Or possibly you're just hearing your car rattle in conjunction with the bass.

What amp are you running? what wire? have you upgraded the wiring (big 3)? Even with a 200 amp alt, if you have too small of wiring, problems can occur, such as the current being in a traffic jam (too much resisitance), or the wire getting too hot and melting, catching on fire (killing your car)

(also, there could be cancellation issues between the 5x7's and the sub.) so adjust your crossovers appropriately.

night. pm me if you still have questions after other ppl chime in.

Just read about the big 3 and the only thing i haven't done is upgrade the ground to the battery. If i do the settings a certain way the whole system sounds simply amazing at lower volumes.

Running a JL slash 500 mono. Haven't messed with the settings because i don't know mush about it. Just have from the head unit

Going to put a bigger ground in tomorrow for the battery. But if that doesn't fix the dimming, will a cap?

Got to get to bed myself. Thanks for everything guys............

NO. If your alt is really 200a, then add another battery.

Though you shouldnt be getting any dimming with only 500w rms.
