how hard is it to get decent bass in a BMW 318Ci 2003 as im looking to get one and i want to buy stuff that i can use in my current car and use it when i get my convertible. if it is hard to get a good set up in a convertible i may have to get the coupe

you just have to think.... you dont have a solid cabin. the sound is just going to flow out of the car... altho i have hurd some decent audio system's in some convertables..... but they where also high powerd system's. if i had to guess id say go with a ported box??

use the tire well when i used to work at the custom shop i was at until he had to lay me off cause my boss went bank rupt. but when we did a mustang convertible we used the tire well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

For a convertible, Id go with a downfiring setup to help 'contain' the sound in the car (more is transferred to the chassis etc).

But if you are asking which is better strictly for audio, the hard top is, definitely.

Im not so sure about that.

My wife and I recently bought an Eclipse Spyder and Im in the process of planning our system.

While the roof is cloth, theres also little between the trunk and the passenger cabin for the bass to go through except a cloth tray (that the top rests in when down) that sits between the rear seats and the open trunk itself.

That should be less restrictive for getting bass into the cabin than trying to fire through a sealed trunk and rear seats, or at least it seems that way to me.

?

Friend had a nice system that pounded pretty good in a 95 z24 convertiable. Pretty custom and had a lot of work dont too it and was converted into a 2 seater cause box was his back seat and all equipment was in trunk. Never metered it, but was on par with my old cavalier that had 2 15 kove z's off 1500rms and was doing 146.5 on old ac, so around 141 or so I would imagine. He was using mostly American Bass products. Was nice setup.
