bass drops on certain freqs. amp/cd player doesnt shut off

ok i certain freqs my bass drops, u cant hear it. but if i turn the volume down, all the bass comes back. as if its not able to feed the output for these frequencies at higher volumes (i even tried re tuning my mids/highs and subwoofer at a lower HU volume, it still does it) if you have to choose, would you say its my refurbed kicker kx600.1 or my pioneer 6900UB. i know pioneer has been having ALOT of problems with theyre RCA's. so i ordred a new clarion headunit and a clarion EQS 7 ban EQ to go with it. im hoping it was just the headunit. but if you had to choose, which would you think it would be? the amp never turns off, the bass frequency just drops on certain levels. but like i said if i turn it down, all the bass comes back. im guessing its an output issue. just dont know if its my HU output or my amp output. so i have a 50/50 guess and chose to get a new HU

Hmmm, Could be the amp, ground or h/u. Does it, do it while you drive ?

I'm thinking ground, I did this once accidentally, it grounds back up thru the hu, not fun....where is the ground for the amp at, is it secure, and did you sand around it for that oh-so-shiny shine?

yes its secure, yes sanded down. i have both my 2 channel and my mono amp hooked up to the same ground location. so my ground is ok.
