bass boosters

Basically my question concerns amplifiers and there multiple bass boosters. On my amp personally, one can boost to 3 different levels i dont remember exactly what they were. Many people say not to use these functions. How much truth is there to this, and why do they include them if they cause more damage then it can benifit. Also does the same go for the bass boost controls on my HU. I have a little bit of the bass boost turned up, but my loudness is turned off and i have my LPF set to about 80hz. Is it ok to use the bass boost on my deck and what kind of damage could this cause. My amp is using the recomended AWG requiremts for my amp so i have about 16ft of 8 gauge power wire connected to my amp. It is a 400wrms pioneer amp with a lot of safe guards. I am only running it at 4ohms so im only pulling 200wrms. I really like the bass i get with my HU bassboost turned up. I have no distortion but i just really want to be sure that it is ok to use these funtions without adverse effects.

distortion and clipping are two different things. yea they sometimes cross but not always.

use whatever sounds good. just remember that everything has its limits.

You mean like LOUD on ur HU or like the Bass +/- EQ?

you can use the bass boost-decibel gains on your head unit, but make sure the loudness is off.

loudness is for low volumes.

also make sure you turn the bass boost down on you amp as well.

use one or the other, but dont over do it.

clipping can cause your sub or subs to burn the voice coil or tinsel leads, which most companies will not warranty.

it depends on ur setup reall. mine is like this while others are WAY differant.

subwoofer(maxed at +15)

loud : on

bass: 0

bass freq: 50 htz

LPF on Hu 100

bassboost on amp:0

gain : 3/4

and i can play daily pretty good at .35 with no distortion

^^^so why do you have your loud on??

if you tune everything right you wont need your loudness on.

^^^ i do spl and it helps my score. loudness on or off makes a .2 db differance for me.
