Bass blocker i.e. small capacitor

Front speakers are 4" Infinity Reference, nice, lot better than the stock 4x6. However I wanted to cut some of the bass out, was given the advice to get some capacitors (since that's what bass blockers are, just over priced capacitors).

Anyway, I got myself a set of 200 uF ones but I'm not sure whether they did anything or not, those speakers still put out quite a bit of bass, and hit on the drum parts of songs real good too.

I put the 200 uF capactirs in series with the positive wire to the speakers.

Should I get different capacitors ? Does anyone have bass blockers, and can tell me how much they really changed ?

What's the small capacitor on the speakers anyway, there's one right by the magnet on each speaker, put in by Infinity, could I remove that one and switch it out with the 200 uF ?

A bass-blocking capacitor is just a very simple crossover with a 6dB/octave slope. What that means is that it will cut down but not completely eliminate bass getting to the speaker. For example, if the crossover point is 100 hz, then the speaker will still play a 50 hz signal but at 6dB lower volume.

If the speaker sounds OK and isn't popping or distorting, then just stick with what you have. If the bass is causing problems with it, you could always buy inductors and make a more complex crossover with a 12 dB/octave slope.

The small capacitor attached to the speaker is keeping the bass out of the tweeter.
