Sony STR-6065 w/cabinet

Item(s) Description/Condition:

Coined by many audio purists the "Mini-Mcintosh", this receiver is no joke. One of the best sounding receivers I have laid my hands on. This is akin to o/s Sony with car audio, very underrated and sought after by those who appreciate how their music sounds.

Cosmetically, it's in fantastic condition. It has had the wooden cabinet on it its whole life, so without it, it's in 9/10 condition. The wooden cabinet isn't perfect though, but VERY rare. The only real issue is that the letters have started to fade.

What makes it really unique is the added pre-out for a center channel/sub, almost unheard of for its time. Also, it sports dual headphone jacks, another unique dohickey.

Mechanically, it was perfect when I tested it out last. It has been sitting unused for the past couple months, as I have been waiting until I restore my same-era Sony SSU-1800's to use it again. I will test it again to verify everything works before I sell it.

Here's the specs from a 1972 Sony sales sheet:

Luxuriously designed, magnificent performance FM stereo/FM-AM receiver 255W dynamic power, 1.8 uV high sensitivity, 80 dB high selectivity

Now SONY presents its premium model in the receiver field, STR-6065. The STR-6065 includes in one case an integrated amplifier with high power and great inherent flexibility and a superbly performing FM stereo/FM-AM tuner. This unit will satisfy the most discriminating hi-fi enthusiasts in every detail.... in performance, in functional controls, in appearance, in cost.... due to its superb combination of SONY's precision engineering and quality craftsmanship. This model's facilities allow you to enjoy off-the-air FM and AM broadcasts, discs, recorded tapes or other program sources. Raise your hi-fi listening enjoyment to new heights with magnificent, versatile performer, the SONY STR-6065.

High power, low distortion amplifier section

No coupling capacitors, no interstage transformers between output transistors and speakers. Instead, the STR-6065 utilizes direct coupling circuitry connecting them directly and is supplied with both positive and negative voltages. In addition, with the use of high quality silicon transistors, you can obtain rich, clear, pure sound you have never heard before throughout an extremely wide frequency range.

The results speak for themselves.

*220W/8-ohms, 255W/4-ohms dynamic power output (IHF) 70+70W/8-ohms, 80+80W/4-ohms continuous RMS power output (at 1kHz, both channels driven simultaneously), 50+50W/ 8-ohms continuous RMS power output (at 20Hz - 20kHz, both channels driven simultaneously)

*Low IM and harmonic distortions of 0.2% at all power levels *15Hz - 30kHz wide power bandwidth

*60/8-ohms high damping factor

High performance FM-AM tuner section with FET's *1.8µV high sensitivity

With the use of FET's and four-gang variable capacitor in FM frontend, high sensitivity and low cross-modulation are obtained providing stable, clear reception of even the weakest signals. *80dB high selectivity

Six-solid state filters in FM IF section catch weak, distant stations located adjacent to strong ones clearly without interference from strong stations.

*In FM multiplex section, high quality low-pass filter suppresses carrier leak without deteriorating frequency response.

*In AM tuner as well as FM tuner, the STR-6065 provides high sensitivity with superior signal-to-noise ratio, plus a linearity and dynamic range that assures low distortion.

An FET and solid-state filters account for the STR-6065's remarkable AM sound.

Now you can enjoy tuning in clear and superb sound! Versatile and flexible control functions

*Long linear dial scale and center-zero tuning meter for precise tuning

*Effective muting switch suppresses all interstation noise while you are tuning

*Separate bass and treble tone controls can adjust to control the prominence of bass and treble notes

*Loudness control boosts high and low frequency components to

provide favorable sound at low volume levels

*High filter cuts out unfavorable high-frequency components such as the scratch noise of discs or tape hiss noise...

*Balance control for optimum stereo effect

*Versatile external inputs-PHONO1, 2, AUX1, 2, TAPE, HEADPHONE

*Center channel output supplies monophonic signals for center woofer system to preserve the stereo effect

*Speaker selector switch-REMOTE, OFF, MAIN, BOTH

*Monitor switch for tape/source comparison

*Mode switch determines the mode of the reproduced program STEREO, REVERSE, L+R, L, R

All the controls are arranged functionally and conveniently for maximum ease of use in a deluxe case
