sounds like a good answer to me just without the technical mumbo jumbo.probably not the most technical answer, and someone please correct me if I am off, but basically it boosts the voltage of the input signal for the amp. Since the gain on an amp is an input sensitivity, it will allow you to run the amp at a lower "gain" while still obtaining the same power output. This will decrease the strain on the amp and provide more headroom.
kinda, it just bumps up your preamp voltage. most of them are at least 8 volts though. u sure its only 5? if it is 5 it wouldnt make any difference for me. at least i dont think. It is rated at 5 volts. My HU was 4 and this made a huge difference. I do not know if this is kinda like HU amplifiers or what.
