all i know is i like the sub and im wanting to know what a good size box is for it and i dont see how 1200 rms at 1 ohm is only 1000 watts at .5 ohm

At a steady .5 ohms he might of gotten 1500-1700 out of that amp

(Going to .5 ohms, doesnt double the 1 ohm rating)

and with impedance rise im betting he was up in the 2 ohm range.

thats still the rms rating either way and it held it perfectly fine with no problems

He wasn't getting 1500-1700 watts out of it...I said with a steady .5 ohm load, and with impedance rise, the amp was really seeing a higher ohm load, giving the sub less wattage.

he has a point though-

the other person didn't say, "give it 2/3s of it's rated power as determined by bench testing the amplifier with the specific impedence rise of his subwoofer etc. etc."

he said, "give it 2/3s of it's rated power" (implying you could use the amps "rms" ratings as somewhat of a gauge)

i say give it full rms power, but use an audiobahn amp...

i sure as hell don't have anythign audiobahn---- but i'd be surprised if more than half of ya'll have subs that actually perform better sql wise than that immortal.

2400w from a viper 1200.1? ya right....clipped signal MAYBE. after imp rise comes into affect (like they said) its gonna bump up high and u'll be lucky if u still arund 1 ohm afer imp rise....a true clean 2400w on that sub and i give it 5 min, tops. then FIRE.

id love to hook it up to my kx 2500.1 and see how long the coisl lasts....2400, ya right

because they didnt make one good sub... they made one good paper weight. and expo- i have a few that will kill it in sql, spl, or sq......

I've sold them and installed them, I haven't heard one perform with any kind of SQ. They just can't do it, they are built with parts that are far below average, and are assembled rather horribly, Ive seen surounds peel up, tinsels snap, surrounds tear, and coils melt with less than RMS.

They are a sub par sub, that is below average at best.
