What's in your trunk?
I know close to nothing about german cars so i have a question for you audi people. Im debating on buying a 2000 s4 that has over 100000 miles on it is this a good idea or bad its 10 years old with alot of miles im possibly going to look at purchase tomorrow so help is appreciated !

They for the most part were pretty reliable, but they do have one major issue. Eventually depending on how hard it was run and how well it was taken care of the seals on the turbos will go bad, it will happen it does to all 2.7t's and when it does it's a huge job. the entire front end has to come off the car to even access them.

By that I mean it sounds like you have no clue wtf you are getting into, I suggest visiting AudiForums.com - Powered by vBulletin and taking a good look around and get an idea of what breaks. I believe that is the same 2.7 engine the A6 has, unless you are installing yourself look at 5k+ to replace your turbos which are probably on their way out not even including the timing chain and other things.

I held back on an A6 because I did not have any room to do work myself, unless you are ballin out of control with stacks of arab money you better be able to do your own work.

With that out of the way they are pretty nice cars, luxurious, pretty peppy and if you can do some work yourself a turbo upgrade and chip turns them into beasts.

Seriously though do yourself a favor and read read read over at the audi forum to get an idea of what you are getting into, ALL Audis are expensive as **** to repair but true enthusiasts dont give a shit.

Good luck

yea just signed up on the audi forums my brothers got a same year a4 and its been no trouble for him so i think i might pull the trigger after a through inspection of the car tomorrow i can wrench just dont have anything to weld but that prolly wont be a problem

The great thing about Audi's is that it's hard to find someone who hates how it looks...Most people loooove how they look, myself included. As far as how they drive...for the price, the non-S versions are pretty slow comparatively, their main handling trait is understeer followed by snap oversteer, the rear seats (a4) are very cramped, and their ride quality is ok. However, their steering feel is epic, the shifter is pretty precise, the clutch is forgiving (albeit the annoyingly "high-up" clutch give point), the trunks are generally big, and the stock sound systems are generally good. If it were me, I'd get a 95 S6 for $5k.....mmmmmmm, turbo 5 cylinder goodness //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Oh, and about your question...you should be fine until 200k, where you might want to start setting up a separate bank account or shop for another car...

The main thing I didn't like about my A4 (97 1.8t) was that I never had a "loving connection" to it. I don't miss the car. I absolutely looooooooooove my Saab, despite the fact that its a total piece. When I sell it, I'm probably going to cry.

Alas, I'm still an Audi guy.

i miss my built audi //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif but the front ends are easy to take off and replace things.. just alil spendy.. And buy it! lol
