The great thing about Audi's is that it's hard to find someone who hates how it looks...Most people loooove how they look, myself included. As far as how they drive...for the price, the non-S versions are pretty slow comparatively, their main handling trait is understeer followed by snap oversteer, the rear seats (a4) are very cramped, and their ride quality is ok. However, their steering feel is epic, the shifter is pretty precise, the clutch is forgiving (albeit the annoyingly "high-up" clutch give point), the trunks are generally big, and the stock sound systems are generally good. If it were me, I'd get a 95 S6 for $5k.....mmmmmmm, turbo 5 cylinder goodness //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif
Oh, and about your question...you should be fine until 200k, where you might want to start setting up a separate bank account or shop for another car...
The main thing I didn't like about my A4 (97 1.8t) was that I never had a "loving connection" to it. I don't miss the car. I absolutely looooooooooove my Saab, despite the fact that its a total piece. When I sell it, I'm probably going to cry.
Alas, I'm still an Audi guy.
