Attack and degrade?

After doing HOURS of tuning going off the MECA SQL handbook I think I figured out what these two terms mean but I would like clarification.

After hearing what I think was decay, the sound trailing off outside the stage, I fixed it.

I'm thinking attack is the opposite but I'm not sure. If it is I'm golden.

Attack is the first sound we hear from an instrument, like a drum stick hitting a snare drum. The attack might last for a few ms. Decay would be the sound continuing that tapers off in intensity. On a snare drum that would be the resonance of the drum and the beads that vibrate against the lower skin.
