Are the beasty 8's really worth it?

I've been considering doing a three or four 8" sub setup for some time now. Heavily considering doing the new sundown sa-8's but then I started considering the performance for the price. On pre order I can get three of the sundown 8's for just over 400 shipped. Now in the same space and for roughly the same money or less I could do 2 12's or 10's(not necessarily sundown) and have good output for sure. Are all these new beastly 8" subs really worth the price? Are they impressive for their size or just impressive period?

Would love to hear from some people that have actually ran these in comparison to their bigger counterparts. The money or space isn't an issue. Pretty much anything I can run currently would max out at about 4 cubes net. Just wondering if multiple 8's is going to match or exceed the output of a dual 10 or 12 inch setup. Also wondering how the various beastly 8's sound. I hear so much about how impressive the output is but not much about how good or bad they sound.

My previous setup consisted of 3 Sundown SA-8s on a Memphis ST1500D at 2.67ohms before rise and they POUNDED. Alot of my friends say I should have kept them and hate me for selling them.

My current setup is more SQ oriented (2 Dayton HO 10s on a zx750) , but it still gets pretty nasty when I want it to. Not quite as loud as the 8s but I cant say they are TOO far behind to the ear.

The thing I like about 8s setups that "WOW factor" like noone expects 8s to hit that hard (kind of like single sub setups) Its always very satisfying to shut down the local idiot with 3 Pyle 15s and see his expression when he realizes he just got owned by a set of 8s. But, I have to say, if it werent for that factor (which is pretty big to me), I'd go with a nice set of strong 10s or 12s since, in my experience, my 10s on half the power give those 8s a run for their money. My next setup is more than likely gonna be a single 12 custom built by SPLaudio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

All great info right there. Right along the lines of what I was looking for. Keep em coming guys. And by the way I have a custom built SPLaudio 12 based on an oldschool ground zero nuke motor and it is a beast. Good quality from SPLaudio and he stands behind his work

I like the satisfaction of getting 8s loud. I've ran 4 8s, 2 8s single 8s and its always fun to try to get them loud. If you like the "wow factor", the beastly 8s are where its at! The new SA8v2s should be nasty little woofers for sure! I thought about getting them, just didnt want to wait for them to come in.

With the proper enclosure they should bang nice. If I hadn't already had a nice 12 for my install I would've looked at a couple 8's or 10's, I think it's pretty awesome what can be done with those little things.

wow factor is cool but there is only so low of frequencies you can play on 8's. But if you tune the box to 36-40 those subs will slam hard as hell.

Edit: Some dd sw6.5's would be more ****** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I definitely like the wow factor thing but that only goes so far. I'm not really out to impress anyone but myself. I rarely show or play my system for anyone else. At the end of the day I just want good sound and solid output when I decide its time to get nasty. I've noticed so far though that nobody has really addressed the way they sound. I know they will slam/bang/pound but will they sound ok doing it? Don't get me wrong the output is definitely a plus.

8's will play just as low as any other sub..in the right box of course. The 6 8's I was running played lower/louder then my 2 12's, 4 10's, and 2 15's on 5500w
yeah the more the better for louder lows but I wouldn't feel safe playing them below 24hz on anything over rms and under 22hz on even rms.

i love 8's i tried alot of them not the new sa 8's but i had a few of the older sa-8's great subs im running 4 vvx-8's on 3k they get pretty loud here is a vid of them with gain not even half way .THE NEW SA-8 v2's should get stupid loud for 8's on like 3-4k ported in 2.7-3.5 cubes@ 32-35hz

oh ya those frequencies are so popular in music right? 28hz is as low as a sub in a vehicle really needs to play.. unless you customize your own music..
