Are 16x DVD-R's or DVD+R's worth it?

It’s only worth it if it’s name brand media. I can say for a fact that more than half of my first spindle ever (cheap as cheap can be) are in the garbage. Within a year I’d say 25% of those discs were garbage.

If you’re still burning at 8x it’s no big whoop. You’ll shave about 2 minutes going to a 16x over a 8x.

Save yourself the hassle and spend the extra 5-20 cents a disc and forget about it.

Seeing as DVDs are 4.7gb and most movies have to be compressed to roughly 50%-60% of their original size to fit on one, it would make more sense to me to buy dual layer DVDs and skip the 45 minute to 2 hour process of ripping and encoding the CD to speed things up.

i currently have dvd-r for burning media files, vid files, apps, music and whatnot at 8x, the disk I use is RiDATA, burned a 100 pack and no coasters, got it for 26 shipped on newegg when they had a sale. when i burn ps2 games or movies i burn at 4x, lower the better for me.

sidenote: my burner is a emprex DL a cheapo $40 at fry's electronics, i got it as a bday gift and havent had any problems. havent burnt dual layer cds yet but will try it, hopefully it works. going on my next 100 pack hopefully no coasters.

well my burner is capped at 8x but i wanna know if those 16x dvd-r are worth it for the money. I mean, whats the deal with the prices? Memorex 16x DVD-/+R's are are like 10 bucks for a pack of 100, something seriously sounds really fishy about them though.

Id avoid Memorex......Ive had quite a few problems with them. I try to stick to Ritek, Fujifilm, or Verbatim.

Like Jmac mentioned, Fujifilm's are often on sale- Best Buy had them buy one get one free a couple weeks ago.

Theres really no reason for you to buy 16x discs, if your burner's max speed is 8x. It wouldnt hurt anything, but theres nothing to be gained either.

Yeah all i use now are Fujifilms because i have never gotten a failed disc in 8 spindles (no joke)

Memorex's i get constant failures, Verbatims were good but they failed like, 2 every spindled.

Dynex were good, hadn't have failed disc ever but when i discovered Fujifilm i was in love //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So my guess is, keep away from the 16x's?

Like I said, if your burner will only burn up to 8x, there's no point in getting 16x media ...

x2, burners are getting cheaper now, get a NEC on newegg for 40 shipped, it does wonders, over 300 reviews and its has 5 eggs which is the max you can get. But as for me I would not want to burn at 16x unless i knew that its stable, eventhough my burner does go up to 16x i doubt that it can do it without any errors, I'd stick to 4x-8x, waiting till they actually put out something that can burn 16x without errors.
