aq hdc3 copper 12; or obsidian 18?

I currently run a hdc3 12 on a brz1200 at 1 ohm in my mountaineer and love it. Its extremely loud. I was offered to trade it for my friends 18 in obsidian because he doesnt have room for it in his truck. My question is will it be atleast as loud or louder and will it be able to handle my amp at 1 ohm

i think it will be louder and can take the power if... you have proper enclosure, and clean signal so keep gaons low. i recently heard two obsidian 15 v.2 on a hifonix and was impressed. dont remember what power he was giving them exactly but he was over powering him.

Yeah I set my gains with a dmm. So I will still be able to set my gains @ 1200 with the dmm on this 600 rms sub/

so many reliable people have told me to ill tell you. a DMM is just a guess. a amp never pushes out exactly the amount it says it does. a DMM sets yourgains much higher than when using a SMD DD1 or o-scope. many times amps also changewhen theres a load (subs) on them. if you are going that route i would set it at around 31.6 volts or around a thousand watts and see how the sub likes it. about trafing i thinkbits fun tovtrade and get new stuff when the oppurtunity arrises. but dont make your desision off me, subs are expensive.

i cant say. every amp ive personally played with is different. voltage drop is what you should worry anout tuned like that. do your subs get really hot and sometimes stink? does your amp feel like it could fry a egg? if all those answers are yes id take it a little easier on the sub.

HDC should take that amp even clipped. Not for hours on end of course.

I'd stick to the HDC personally, just don't see many loud OA set ups. OA will play lows better/louder since it has a lower FS and more cone area. I have a garage full of OA 18's that I just took out of a big build. Moved decent air but wasn't all that loud....

So you don't think the OA 18 will be as loud as my hdc312 on the same power?

I don't think it will get quite as loud, but it will def be a lot lower with authority than the 12" is... Will he let you hook it up on your setup so you can demo it to see if you like it better 1st? I would try to do that if at all possible before making any decisions...

If its a V2 Obsidian I would take it over the 12" AQ.

I owned 3 HDC3 subs and 4 Obsidians.
