Ok i almost was set on getting a single HDC3 12" and have a AQ 1200d pushing it in about a 2.3netcuft box at about 37hz. Then i was looking at DD prob a 3512. But i'm realizing that i really dont want all out SPL. I want a sub that is loud like an SPL sub (well maybe not like 150db's but you know) but doesnt sound like S-Poo-L( i should put that in my sig //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif). I would preferably like a sub that i could tune the box to about 32-35 maybe higher or lower and the box requirements be no larger than 2.5cuft Net after bracing and port and sub. Budget is 300$ shipped but would like to keep it a little less than that.(goin to college...) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks once again

Well i was looking at the hdc3 12" but i just saw somebody's sig and saw dc lvl 4's and so i looked into them and they seem pretty good and the box requirements are modest. But i was pretty interested in a DD 3512 as well. Well i have a type R 12" in a 1.7cuft box tuned to about 35ish. and it gets pretty low so whatever i end up getting i would rather not sacrificing Low end output for high end SPL output.

RL-P's sound good IMO, but don't get that loud. FI Q is a very solid sub that could do all you want off around 1k of power. Same with an AQ SDC, of if you up the power an HDC.

I've built numerous AQ/DD enclosures for myself and others and the higher tuning has never been a problem. Using EQ to tame down the bump, and dialing back the sub/subs, so they blend with your front stage will go a long ways towards making it sound good. Then crank it up on days when you're in more of an SPL mode.

I ran 2 15" HDC's for quite a long time and they sounded more like a couple of 10" sealed subs the majority of the time as I don't play it that loud very often.

Sometimes lower tuning makes the bottom end muddy or boomy and that sure won't sound good unless you only listen to rap...

AQ subs will play below tuning just fine. But "if" you plan to only listen to rap, overpower the sub, and play below box tuning for hours on end, then I'd consider tuning to 35Hz. Otherwise 38Hz would be my choice...

I'm currently running a DD9515 tuned to 42Hz and it sounds very good on everything I've played so far. Peaked at 40Hz when I burped it the other week....
