i was playing around at walmart and was putting some of my cd's in the home "boom box" systems. one of them had four 4" midbass woofers, and seriously sounded like a decent 10". is it because of the way the tower is designed? and are car component systems not made for bass response like this? itll be a while until i get an amp for my subs and i have barely any bass, if any. some songs, a little. most songs, none at all. any way i can get better bass response? im running a 6.5" midrange comp set. i say midrange because it has the cone coming out of the center of the woofer. the midbass ones look like mini subwoofers, right? is that the type of comp set i would need for better bass response? sorry for the noob question. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Sealing up your doors should be your first step. The holes that your door panel has hinder you from having a true IB setup for your front speakers. If you can seal those hole, as well as add a few layers of sound deadening, the low end response from your front stage will increase drastically.

There are a ton of variables that affect how a speaker responds to it's environment. Unfortunately, a car door exhibits some of the worst conditions for a speaker, next to just submerging it in water.

Creating a stable platform for the speaker, and limiting resonance around the speaker is key. Reflections within a cabinet are bad as well. Making sure the speaker is decoupled from the mounting surface can benefit as well. You also need a fixed volume of air by either creating a sealed or vented enclosure, again very difficult to do in a car door.

I'm not going to go into how to create the best possible environment out of a car door as there are many, many methods, and many products designed to accomplish this.

Start searching.

Step 1: Deaden the crap out of your doors

Step 2: Make an MDF ring for your speaker

Step 3: (I don't see this often, but it helped me) Seal the area between the speaker and grille with weatherstripping

well i have an MDF baffle on the outside of my door as seen here:

i have since replaced those kickers with the eclipse's in my sig. ive also noticed, with my windows up the midbass is exactly how i want it. with the windows down, all u hear is highs. must be all the noise from the outside thats killing the bass response (being able to hear it) i will deaden my doors, when im not so impatient. my doors are LOADED with all kinds of bars, switches, metal plates.. all kinds of crap.
