Any mechanics online? This problm has me STUMPED. Lots of diagnostic in here

EDIT: pending code showed itself when the car died this time, P1110. Ill have to research what this means!!

I basically just cant take my car the way it is right now. Im having some troubles with my car starting/ and then sometimes even stalling out while driving.

Its a 2001 Infinity Qx4

about a month ago the car sometimes wouldnt start, you could turn the key over and it just wouldnt crank or anything, just nothing, turn it again sometimes once, sometimes 20 times, and it would fire up like normal, perfect quick start. I never fixed it as I never found the problem and there was no check engine light, but it would always start, so I was hoping to pinpoint it before throwing money away

I just found a very cheap starter online used with solenoid that I may buy ($80)

NOW, Ive been having some stalling problems lately, the car will stall here and there, seems random, but more common on slow turns with no gas pedal being applied, or coming to a hard stop.

I scanned the car last night and got a P0335, crankshaft position sensor malfunction, which I cleared and it didnt come back (only drove for 30 min today though) so I dont know if its relevant

-the car cranks sometimes for 2 seconds to start, sometime 10 seconds, cranks really hard and fast though, just takes a sec to kick over, and when it does, it limps over, you have to give it gas t pick the rpms up, but once running, runs smooth.

-it dies sometimes while coming to a stop

-does sometimes while taking slow turns

-Ive felt a loss of power/bog while cruising on the highway

When reading the service manual, under reasons why the car would throw a P0335 crank sensor error, it lists.

-starter motor

-starter system circuit

So I honestly dont know what to do here, I have verified proper fuel pressure coming out of the pump (initial thought was no fuel pressure, but its 50psi @ start, 42 @ idle, which is spec)

I think I may go ahead and order the starter, and that may fix one problem, but as for the car stalling out. I dont know if the starter is causing the sensor failure....

The sensor isnt cheap, so I dont want to buy it if I dont need to. But I cant see why only a pooched starter would cause a car to stall and run like it does....

Thanks for any help, very much apprecaite anything I can get here

sounds like your crank position sensor is going out...this is likely all your problems concering the running of the car...what actually happens to them is they get a short in them and cause the car to take a long time to start...then it will eventually not start at all...that sensor tells the ignition system what position your crank is in so that it knows which cylinder to fire....when the sensor dies, no cylinders will fire at all no matter what you do...

My battery cables are perfect, I replaced most very recently for my big 3, and are secure, tight, and clean. I also have 2 batteries, which rest and charge perfect ( I have a voltmeter) and the battereies are less than 6 months old

So this crank sensor would cause drivablility problems like this? I just found it odd that I cleared it and it didnt come back

go drive around for longer and see what happens....if the sensor has a problem its gonna come back later on..

I was thinking a crank position sensor would come on RIGHT AWAY again though, I dont know if I just caused an error when I was cleaning my engine or something, but its a new code for my car for sure.

Ive got a date tomorrow thats why I wanted to push this lol, dont want the car dying, so I was gonna order the sensor today possibly if MOST LIKELY it was the problem.

Bah, i hate electronics!! wheres my carb

x2!.hate cars these days...just computerized and make it so **** complicated:verymad:..lol

I would say the two responce above sound most probable. Something in the wiring from battery to starter, could even be a bare wire shorted. CPS would be just as probable, you could even take it out look at it for corrrosion and put some grease around the seal.

Wont come back until it "stalls" or "fails to start" again. and yeah it could cause driving trouble...it has a thing wire inside that basically goes down to a proximity switch...so when you turn it could cause the short to become evident....kinda like when your amp is wire with a loose connection, it go off or on when your turn or hit a bump..

Remember all things mechanical arent perfect. The sensor could infact be bad but it cleared and isnt coming back for whatever reason. Im not too familiar with new cars but i believe the crank position sensor ties in with the ECM and controls timing/fuel adjustments if theres a problem with it, atleast from what ive heard. I know for a fact a bad crank sensor will cause hard starting though. I would replace the crank sensor though, and if thats not the problem, atleast its some preventive maintenance. I think it is, as the car wouldnt throw that error for no reason.

Sorry just read the WHOLE OP, the CPS can drop your fuel mileage, cause power loss. I was thinkin CPS without seeing you pulled the code. Price shop for that sensor, it ranges from 15 bucks to 190 for my truck! Goog luck man

Well the car just took a good 15 seconds to start, cranks hard as ever though, just doesnt turn over, and when it does turn, it limps over, needs a little gas pedla love to get going

I scanned it after starting it (its still idling outside), and i have no code, but I do have a "pending" code

And the "C" "0" "OH" "EV" were flashing, gotta figure out what the means for my reader

Well yeah I can get the sensor online for $90ish I think, I was hoping to just buy it from my local dealer though today/tomorrow so it would be done for tomorrow night.

But I dont exactly have a huge ammount of disposable cash to just be chuckin away $200

Thanks so far guys, appreciate the help
