Any fans of the dead on this forum?

I've found myself uncontrollably slipping into grateful dead fandom recently......

I was always a fan of workingman's dead, and just recently invested some time into updating my dead catalog, and now i'm wishing i did it a long time ago...

From the mars hotel, and american beauty are some truly amazing records, and seeing the grateful dead movie pretty much sealed the deal...

Curious to see if there's any fans out there on the forum? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

True story that actually has to do with the basis of this thread:

An aquaintance of mine who I have lost touch with since he moved to Maryland some years ago was both a huge Grateful Dead fan as well being more than a bit of a fan of various recreational drugs once drove a taxi here in my hometown.

He was killing time not taking any runs and had been off the air (the cab company radio) for some time because he was tripping acid one night when he wandered over to my house for a visit.

When he showed up at my house he was trippin' pretty hard and listening to Dead's Skeletons From The Closet greatest hits album when the dispatcher must have realized she hadn't heard from him in awhile.

So - dispatch calls his cab number and because he was operating a commercial vehicle while under the influence he immediately became nervous. So - he picks up the microphone and responds and dispatch asked him "Are you deadheading or are you tripping?"

Either situation, when not on psychotropic drugs would be a rather innocuous occurence. In my buddy's case at that moment in time, however, was to me funny as could be that dispatch would be inquiring about such a thing.

While I was trying desperately to stifle a laugh my buddy looks in wonderment at his microphone before very nervously replying, "Both! Bu..but...how did you know?!?" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

For those that do not know in taxicab-driving parlance (or truckdriving, etc) the term "deadheading" means rolling without a load, passenger, whatever, and "tripping" is rolling loaded.

In my buddy's state when he was asked, however, it was too funny to be believed at the time.

I'm sure it was much funnier to me than to you guys so there ya go.

That is all.

i never said the dead were my favorite band, nor the only band i listen to

i just never bothered listening to them, cause i figured you had to be really high to like it, but that's not the case at all

they're actually great musicians, and definitely have a few albums worth listening to

I agree. I like most of their stuff that Ive heard, it's mellow and skilled. Some people go crazy over it though...
