Antenna/deck/wiring issue?

So, I'm pretty clueless as far as any of this car audio goes, but.. here's a question, my radio will randomly cut to static. I'll pull into my garage, it'll cut out to static, when I go to start it the next day, the radio works fine (FM).. when I start pulling out, it'll cut off, and when I get outside, back on again, and randomly go to static.

When I hit an open stretch of highway, it completely cut off and was nothing but pure static.

The messed up part is sometimes, when I put my hand over the face of the deck (it's a Clarion)

that the radio will start partially working again and I'll get reception.

My question is, has the antenna started to go, is there a lose wire in the deck or is the deck finally shot?

It's a Clarion deck, probably 5-6 years old.... 2001 Impala, everything but the deck is stock.

EDIT: AM Radio has never worked after the person who installed the deck, did it..

If i'm going to possibly rip this thing apart and look, I'd rather have a start point or not do it at all if its an antenna issue and work with that....

if cd or other sources works then sounds like antenna wire came loose just plug it in tight..

everything else works perfectly fine --- although the clock does tend to speed up on its own an gains like 2-3 minutes every month
