ok so i think i have decided instead of jus getting a voltage regulator to step to 16 volts im just going to buy a 140amp 16volt alternator from powermaster, my plan is to keep my current alternator for the cars electrical and mid/highs amps, and use the 16volt alt just for the sub amp, ill have to fabricate a second bracket for the 16volt alt, but i dont think that will be a problem. but would this work, im sure it would but would a 140 amp alt be sufficient to run we'll say around 5700wrms, with 4 kinetik hc16v batts, the sub amp will be a soundstream xxx10000d. thanks in advance to all information guys.

i guess what i really need to know is if 4 kinetik 16v batts would supply enough current draw for the amp, and if the 140 amp alt would keep the batts charged up good

I would run a bigger alt if you can the 16v alt is going to be really be in between 18.7-19.3v and a 16v battery is going to be 17.3v+. The alt isnt even going to beable to put out 50% of the potential of the amp.

yea thas true, but hopefully with the battery bank, it should be able to keep up wit the amp, im hoping .. hope it will keep the batts partial charged while the amp draws from the batts, i could be wrong i really dont know, lol

they have a 200 amp 16volt alt too but its almost double the price of the 140 amp one,

I would go with as big as you can afford..the majority of the power needed in the system will come from the alt since it has the higher voltage potential when its voltage drops then more juice will come into play from the batteries. for a burp or short sessions cranked up you would be ok but if you want it solid all the way through I would get a bigger alt.

I dont think that alt is big enough at all my buddy is running one of the XXX10000's with an hc1800 two D3100 one 215amp alt and one 250 amp alt. That is what it takes to make sure that on loud music that it wont go much below 12v. I think you would burn up your alt very quick because it would be running full tilt all of the time.

thas a good point, ill try my best to get the highest amperage alt i can for sure then, even if it means i need to save a lil while longer, but im def gonna run the amp a 16volts tho also.

Check out some of the 16 volt stuff on this site, I think they cater mostly to race cars and maybe none of it would be good enough for a high watt system but there was some cool stuff on there I thought. Good prices also. They have mini alts, step down modules, 16v alts etc.
