The President has been playing a central role in congressional negotiations over the recent deficit talks; the current plan being authored by 'the gang of 6' is being modeled after the Simpson-Bowles plan that was commissioned by the white house. It seems this claim that the president is doing nothing or failing to play a leadership role is inaccurate.

• Promptly ignored the commission’s December 2010 report.

• Delivered a State of the Union address in January that didn’t even mention the word “debt” until 35 minutes in.

• Delivered in February a budget so embarrassing — it actually increased the deficit — that the Democratic-controlled Senate rejected it 97 to 0.

• Took a budget mulligan with his April 13 debt-plan speech. Asked in Congress how this new “budget framework” would affect the actual federal budget, Congressional Budget Office Director Doug Elmendorf replied with a devastating “We don’t estimate speeches.” You can’t assign numbers to air.

Obama has run disastrous annual deficits of around $1.5 trillion while insisting for months on a “clean” debt-ceiling increase, i.e., with no budget cuts at all. Yet suddenly he now rises to champion major long-term debt reduction, scorning any suggestions of a short-term debt-limit deal as can-kicking.

A clever strategy it is: Do nothing (see above); invite the Republicans to propose real debt reduction first; and when they do — voting for the Ryan budget and its now infamous and courageous Medicare reform — demagogue them to death.

Yeah, you have a real leader there.

You know, for copying and pasting word for word the comments of a fox pundit, that's pretty unimpressive that this is the best you could come up with. If you took the time to actually read news outside of your conservative blogs and chain emails then you would have realized that the 2010 report is the Simpson-Bowles plan and as i said has played a major role in the gang of 6 talks, the white house's proposal, and even Paul Ryan's proposed budget. Didn't use the word debt for 35minutes into a state of the union? Doesn't seem to be a very meaningful measure.

It's easy to see how someone who is so misinformed could have their anger become so narrowly homed in on the president when the real blame ultimately lies with Congress. They are the ones that approve budgets. To think that the President, or even the entire democratic party, could possibly be alone responsible for the the debt is to demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of how the federal government operates and has been legislating for the last 10 years.

But go ahead and keep believing that you know exactly whats best for the United States and anyone who disagrees is surely mentally handicapped. I guess the biggest harm will be to yourself after you die at 55 from repeatedly pushing your blood pressure & stress levels through the roof over fear and anger directed at imaginary enemies.
