Am I expecting to much?

Well today I finally recieved my Pioneer Revs in the mail and got done installing them about 2 hours ago. After playing a couple of songs they really dont impress me much. My system consists of the Pioneer Revs TS-D161Rs which are the coax 6.5s and Polk DB690s which are the 6x9 coaxs. Now the midbass coming from the 6x9s are really impressive and I love it but the 6.5s dont even produce half the midbass the 6x9s are producing. Do these speakers need a break-in period?? I also dont have the gains for the front speakers set properly yet but I know Ive turned the gain up to about where they should be because im feeding the front and rear speakers the same amount of watts. Also none of the filters are on on my amp so Im lost. Am I just expecting to much or do I need to wait?? They sound like the 5.25s I had in the car earlier running of HU power but these are 6.5s running off the amp so Im lost.

It is really hard to say without actually listening to your setup. I personally have never been a big fan of coax speakers. With that said , No they dont need a break in period. A break in period is for large drivers and is generally just to allow the suspension of the driver to loosen up. The trick to setting the gains on front and rear speakers is to start with both of them low and adjust your front stage as the main stage and your rear should blend in and should not over power the front stage. Rear fill in car audio is greatly debated and is very difficult to do correctly, especially if you are running a subwoofer in the rear of the car. The best bet for getting the most midbass from your front stage is to use some type enclosure for them, either a kickpanel or deaden your doors. I have seen those foam inserts for your doors on ebay and they will help. Post what all your system consists of to give us a better idea of what your working with:)

yea I was gonna deaden the doors sooner or later....I was just scared I was gonna mess up doing it somehow lol but it shall get done. My system right now consists of a Pioneer DEH-6900UB headunit, Pioneer Revs TS-D161R 6.5s in the front with Polk Audio DB691s in the back powered by a Profile HA1040 4 channel amp. Soon I was gonna start looking for my sub amp and probably was gonna power some Mach 5 Audio 12s in the trunk. The only reason I didnt get the components is because I really have no where to mount the tweeter in my car. Once I do power mirrors to my car I was gonna install it in the sail panel but I just need to wait to do the conversion first. But since they dont need a break in period Im just gonna go set the gains properely then. Hopefully I can put some more power into them.

Midbass is heavily install dependent. Unless you've put down multiple layers of deadening and sealed up any holes in the door panel with something solid, and decoupled the speaker from the panel properly, it's going to be tough to get good midbass response out of it.

I recommend 2 layers of Mat and 2 layers of a close celled foam like Ensolite. Thats what it took for me to get accurate midbass that was realistic. I deadned my Door and my Door's Panel.

i thought my speakers sounded great too until i added more and more deadener. Now I have so much it took two people to put my door panels on and screw it in place with the help of some washers :).
