hey guys, im new to this forum and im having a deliemma on sq setup for my car. give u a little background of the car and setup. Its a 2002 ***** am with stock monsoon system. right now for my new setup is a kenwood excelon kdc-x891 with 5 volts preout rca. My choices for component sets and coaxial speakers are Morel tempo 6 comp sets for the fronts and tempo 6c coaxial for my rear sailpanel. I have narrow down the amp between 2 choices the alpine pdxf4 or the ppi pc640.4. both fell within my price range and i just want to know which amp would be ideal for great sq setup.

I believe Garry Springgay over at pasmag tested the PC640.4 and the Alpine PDX-F6. Both reviews were excellent. Both should be excellent for SQ. I wish he had posted the wattage measurements. I have seen another test of the 5-channel PPI, where it also did well. The PPI, being a powerful Class A/B amplifier, is bigger, less power efficient, and may need well ventilated area while the PDX-F4 could fit into very tight spaces. It's your call IMO.

I have an alpine pdx.100(the older model of the fx4), and I love mine. It has great sound quality, and since its so small it fits into tight spaces without needing as much cooling as other amps. It also looks cool, I think the fx4 looks even better! My vote is the alpine

I would go with the PPI all the way. I had a PC series amp that lasted 11 years! I just bought a new PC740.5 and even though the company has been bought out since the days of old I am very pleased with this amp. It doesn’t seem like they have changed a lot as far as design and features and this thing puts out 100% pure clean power! Are you planning to add a sub? The reason I ask is because the PC740.5 will power a whole system very nice. 60x4 + 380x1. I would recommend running your mids and tweeters off of separate channels. The deck should provide enough power for sufficient rear fill. I did this and it makes a huge difference having separate gain controls for the mids and tweeters. It’s nice to be able to send some extra power to the mids without the tweeters getting to harsh. I have the PPI amp powering a set of Fosgate Power series comps and 2 JL audio 10’s and I can’t believe the musical clarity and detail I’m getting from digital (MP3) music. Anyhow just my 2-cents. Hope this helps!

thanks for your input, but i ended settling with the alpine pdxf4, its going into my ***** am and i got an amp rack that fits in the rear hatch and i have limited place to mount them since i want a stealth look to it.
