Alpine CDA-9857 problem.

Hi I'm actually new here and have a problem regarding my HU. I have an alpine CDA-9857 deck in my '97 nissan hardbody and all of a sudden the display of the unit just shuts off and stops working. Nothing is lit up or anything but the funny thing is that it is still able to play cd's. However I can't control the volume, listen to the radio, or adjust other audio settings without the deck on. I tried replacing the fuse and that didn't work. Anyone know what other problems might be that is causing this? Bad ground wire maybe? Damage to the unit? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanx!!

P.S.- Pretty badass site!

If its a removable faceplate then it sounds like you are not getting a good connection in the back of the faceplate. If that is the case, you can buy some contact cleaner from your local electronics store and clean the contacts.

I just tried that today. However it didn't fix the problem. So what I did was I opened up the faceplate to take a look inside where the contacts are soldered down. There was a huge amount of what appears to be corrosion all around that area. Isn't there usually a plastic plate in there covering up that area to prevent that? Well my deck didn't have anything like that inside unfortunately. So I cleaned all that off, put the plate back together and tried to power it up again. Still not working. I think my alpine just died on me. Sucks too because now my ride has no boom. Anyone else had similar experiences like these?

Here's the inside where the connectors are. It's all cleaned off now but when I first looked at it there was a lot of yellow gunk (most likely corrosion) surrounding the whole area. That's why I thought it would've made sense to have some kind of protective plate or coating around there or something. I think this was what caused the deck to go out because before sometimes the deck wouldn't turn on when I would start my truck. Then I would flip it down, reconnect it and it would turn on. God this sucks.

Sorry about the shitty cell phone pics. Kinda blurry. Hope you know what i mean.

Did you clean the other contacts (on the deck side) also?
yep tried that too. Also I had to edit that statement a couple of posts ago. Only had the deck for 3 years. Feels like I've had it longer than that. However I did find my receipt from best buy and it is still under the 4-year service plan. Bought the deck on 5/25/06. If all else fails, they can always replace it with something close to the price range I paid. Since I'm sure alpine doesn't make the 9857 anymore.
