just went through this and decided on the 9853 and i love it i cant see paying about 100 dollars more for 2 volts or so.

Hate to say it, but Alpine went downhill this year. Their new units have a rediculous 10% failure rate, the now longer have v-drive internals, the glide-touch is gay/sucks balls, and the only unit with 4v pre-outs is the 55 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I chose the 53, however I recently had to take it back to Best Buy for repair because the glide touch would get stuck, making the status light go crazy and render the unit useless until you jabbed at it a few times. Also, when I took it back, they asked if I had the 55. When I said no, they said, "Oh, ok. I was asking because it got recalled." Take that for what its worth. Regardless, I suggest you get some coverage on it. OH and lastly, I've been 2 weeks without the unit because Best Buy had to ship it to Alpine for repair.
