Today the weather warmed up here in Nellyville and my amps have reached a toasty 170 Degrees F!!! My HU still shows that the amp fans are OFF. Does anyone know at what temp the fans turn on? I read the manuals but there was no mention of that. Them BISHES was HOT!

Amps are:

Alpine MRD-M605 and Alpine MRV-F545

Here is a pic of the fan showing "off"

I had the same thing with an 345 I had....that mofo got hotter than a pistol. I called Alpine tech support at the time and they said that they don't fire up until 172.5 degrees If I recall correctly. My solution was to sell that ***** the next day!!

x2 172.5 is hot for the fan too be off on my excelon the amp turns on around 150ish on low but the fan barely turns on it cuz it doesnt get that hot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I think that must be pretty standard as the two fans in my 4-channel (according to the installation/owner's manual) don't kick on 'til 170 degrees.

Edit: Ricky? You're running a pair of '06 L7s off of that X521?

Yeaaaa, i am not lookin to sell my $hit just yet! mmmmmkay?

172.5 is hot tho! wow

I dont see why he should sell them, the amps just has higher working temp.-it has only one disadvantage-in colder weather must longer wait until they are able to play to full potential(musically)Obviously its an A/B design which is much better sounding then D class amps,so Docutech i would check if vents are working,if yes i would leave it at that(of corse if you like the sound)

I never said he SHOULD sell them!! I sold mine because it sounded like shit in addition to running that hot. Just MY story with the product. Maybe I sould have put a disclaimer: Caution - results not typical //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Also it's pretty early in the morning and maybe I'm not really up yet, but I thought you just said that class A/B's amplifiers sound MUCH better than class D amplifiers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

yes they are better sounding..(how many d-class amps have you seen powering comps? They are only good in car system because they are less power hungry then A/B class amps-soundwise they are much better)

I'm just going to assume that your ignorance here stems from the fact that you are new to car audio because that statement carries very little merit.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

have to agree in some way. Class d amps are not used for comps because they are usually frequency limited and also suffer from RF issues. Turn on your fm radio and look at the cones of your subwoofer. Freaky stuff going on. However there are new versions of what are technically class d amps that have none of the issues of older class d designs. These amps are top doller and rock!

Now the instance if class d sounding worse in the frequency range it is designed to play in such as subbass over a class a/b.... Well I cannot agree with that.
