Air Force ROTC

Anyone in the Air Force?

I am looking into majoring in Aerospace Engineering and doing the AF ROTC to become an officer in the Air Force. I was just wondering if this is the best way to do it, besides going to the academy; and if there are any other ways I can do it. I do not want to enlist.

Also, I know there are many more opportunities in the Air Force than just flying, but what would give me the best chance to become a pilot?

Thanks

If you can get into the Academy, I'd say do that...I've known a lot of people in AF ROTC by way of the fact that VT is one of two schools in the country (Texas A&M is the other) that still has a full Corps of Cadets program, not just ROTC. Those guys are really motivated, and most of them end up as commissioned 2nd Lt's on graduation.

I am in NROTC at the moment and I really love it. I have a buddy at the AF Academy and he despises it. The corps of cadets is very very intense, it is veru much like an academy would be. I prefer the actual ROTC environment, more laid back but you still get trained very well.

Oh boy...If you want to study aerospace engineering, and have a guaranteed job, ROTC isn't a bad idea. You could do reserves, then earn your E-5, then go OCS when you are done, then you'll have a lot more respect as a 2nd LT...

If you want to fly, go Navy...

Sorry, but choosing to go OCS because you will get more respect from the enlisted who will serve under you is a real ***** way of deciding your route of getting a commission.

If the Acadamy is out of the question, then I would go ROTC without question. It makes so much more sense than going enlisted with the idea that you will later try to get into OCS. You need to do what makes more sense for your situation, not what some zit faced 18 year old who you have not even met may think.

It's amost like saying I want to get in the NFL, I am already in college and I can get a full ride playing ball in college. Should I do that, or wait until I am out and play in the arena league for a few years and hope some NFL team takes notice. BTW, I hear fans really love players who make their way to the NFL after playing arena.
