Aeroports...

Looking to build a box for a 12" type R and want to use aeroports. I've built many boxes with slot ports but have never touched an aero. The max length and width of the box is 18" and 19" and I want to tune low. Obviously the port is not gonna fit straight in if I use a 4" or similar with around 25 sq in of port area.

Can I bend the aeros with a 90 degree elbow? Would that just make going with an aero pointless basically? Also, saying I can do that, which would be better....

Port on same plane as sub but with elbow making the inside of them facing to the side of the box without the sub

or

Port on the side of the box with an elbow making the inside part of the port facing the back of the sub?

Thanks

box B

which one would be better?

is throwing a 90 degree angle at a aeroport sort of killing the point of an aeroport in the first place

a 90* angle may slow the air down just a bit, but not enogh to change the tuning. and it wont cause any port noise. get the 90* elbow with the smothest curb, if youre realy worryed, but the aero port is realy design to aid in the way the air exits and enters the port to eliminate the port noise cuaused at the mouth opening of the ports. i would go with box B, since the sub wont be fireing strait into the port and forcing some of the air to go into the port before the enclosure is even pressurised by the subs full stroke. others may say it dont matter.

depending on what vehicle will matter most.

to be honest? it wont make a huge deal in a daily box wich way the port fires versus the sub. you will prolly not even notice a difference in output if you tried both ways. whatever way makes it easiest for you - and DONT FORGET to add a bradce for your port if its going to be that long inside the box. a good way to do this is to measure out where the ports will be and make a template using the height of the box with the two holes, but only like 1 or 2" wider than the ports and put it in vertically to hold the inner structure up.

bends wont be a big deal in a daily box.

hell, actual aeroports wont be a big deal in a daily box. might as well use regular PVC.
