adjusting sub/amp settings(alpine)...

i recently had an alpine type-x 12 ported w/ an alpine mrd-m1005 amp installed in my 300c, and it sounds good, but i feel like it hits mid- low bass really good, but the really low low bass it is kinda lacking, or just hitting the mid really hard compared to the really low tones if that makes sense. i would rather it hit the entire range more equally...

is this something that is adjustable with the frequency or something on the amp, or is it something else? i am using the factory headunit if that makes a difference.

thanks for helping out a rookie...haha

Dan

What is the enclosure tuned to?

Does your amplifier have a subsonic filter (SSF)? If so, where is it set?

Also, some factory headunits have volume-based equalizers, where as the volume increases the low bass decreases to avoid damaging the factory speakers. Does your deck do this?

well, to be honest i'm not really sure what the box is tuned to...i could call the guy and ask him...

i would have to look and try and see what the filter would be set at. It's the alpine mrd-m1005 and it has all electronic adjustments on the front when you take off the cover...

as for the headunit, not sure about that either, it has boston acoustics factory speakers and the headunit just has the generic, bass, mid, treble, and front rear side to side adjustments...

ok, i went and looked to see what the amp was currently set...

gain - 1.5 (out of 0-8)

bass eq - +8 (out of 0-16)

lp filter - 60hz

subsonic filter - 15hz (other options are either off or 30hz)

Would really help if you knew what the enclosure was tuned to and what volume it is.

Also, that thing with the volume-based EQ isn't bypassable or adjustable on most headunits, so you wouldn't find it in any settings.

hey, i think the guy said the box is tuned to about 50-55hz, and probably about 38hz when in the car if it makes a difference...not sure about the volume, but i could go measure the exterior demensions of the box if that would help...

thanks again, Dan

well i have the same sub setup in my truck only im running 2.0 cubes net sealed, and its hits everything nicely, not too mention really really low try getting your box tuned to a lower frequency, like 32hz, or get a sealed box, but i am curious to run it ported so soon to be put into a tcab

what frequency on your amp do you have it set at? i lowered it to like 45 and it was hitting lower for sure...making the sunroof vibrate up and down like crazy, but you could definitely tell it was lacking up top then...

i put it inbetween now at like 50 or so...said 53 on the digital display, but it was inbetween the middle 53 and 45, so i dont know if it matters...

thanks, Dan

ok, maybe a new twist to this, and i wanted to get you guys opinion...

on the 300 forums there is a lot of talk about the rear speakers "rolling off" at anything from 100hz down. here is what one person said...

"The most easy place to tap signal for your aftermarket amp is the rear speakers BUT....If your original stereo was Sound Group II, the rear deck speakers roll off at about 100hz. If you tapped the rear speakers, you are missing a lot of the low end to start."

does this sound like it could be the main reason for the lows not hitting as hard? any 300 owners on the boards? they recommended tapping the front door speakers, but doesn't seem like anyone on the boards are really sure what the BEST way to solve the problem is.

thanks again, Dan
