acid reflux?

anyone here have acid reflux disease(GERD) or just have cronic acid reflux?

i seem to get it a lot these days and so far i have been sticking to the ol faithful Tums, but it sucks to take them when i have a problem

i would like something that will keep it from happening, has anyone tried other OTC meds like prilosec? how well do they work?

Prilosec works ok. You have to take it daily, so its not like tums.

I perfer nexium. Works well...I actually dont have to take any meds anymore. I took nexium, started to eat right. Stopped drinking caffeine and eating chocolate.

I've been downing 2 Prilosec OTCs every day for the last 6 months or so...

I use Tagamet every day. Keeps it well under control, but you know if you miss more than one day in a row of it.

i also think that the acid refux is complication my asthma at times, especially while i sleep

Same here, nexium works good. I used to get it where I'd wake up in the middle of the night with a mouthful of stomach acids, would have to run to the bathroom and spit it out. After taking nexium for awhile it stopped, I don't have to take the nexium anymore and I don't get the stomach acids coming up on me anymore.

I had acid reflux as a teenager.. didn't take drugs or change my diet and it just went away... never have it now..

yep drinking sometimes aggravates it, especially if i drink something acidic like a summer hummer or screwdriver

i think i will give prilosec a shot

have you had any complications with mixing alcohol and prilosec?

It's not that simple for everyone. I'm a D1 runner for arguably the best team in the country. I eat EXTREMELY healthy, and I have it horribly bad. My whole fathers side of my family does. If I don't take nexium every day, I throw up stomache acid about every 5 minutes.

A lot of people think they have "acid reflux." But, in reality, they just eat like shit, and get heartburn from it. It's not the same thing, and you can't just say to improve your diet in all cases. That's bull shit.

No problems at all.... I used to be prescribed the active ingredient in Prilosec, Omeprazole, so I don't think its a big deal that I take it so often. I only switched from the nexium/ protonix because I got sick of dealing with the Insurance company. It seems to work well as long as I take it everyday. They are coming out with generic versions now too so its cheaper.

ever try the walgreens brand? i just looked and it is almost half the price or name brand prilosec

why spend more for the same thing
