Abate??

if you have drove a dirt bike, and did well, you should have no problems adjusting to the extra weight. bikes are easy to drive. once you get going they almost drive themselves. just gotta learn proper leaning, and turning to ensure safe street driving.

i drove my cusins honda 600 street bike a few times in the parking lot at work. i did all right but i had a hell of a time getting my feet on the pegs. hopefully if IU gets out soon i might be able to get ahold of someones bike and take it for a little drive around the stadium //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Wrong!

The weight difference is night and day not to mention many other aspects. That was horrible info. Good job!

If anything, the course does offer you some riding experience and it will almost definitely teach you something new. On top of that, here in Michigan it will earn you discounts on your bike's insurance if you've taken it. So it's basically a win/win situation that you get yourself into.

Go for it.

When you buy a bike just go for something inexpensive and practical. 250cc is sufficient for highways and occasional freeway driving assuming you weigh less than 250lbs. You'll probably (Most likely) put your first bike down at least once so don't go out spending crazy money on a bike until you're confident enough that it's not going to happen anymore.

Good info, but I always say if you can keep your hand off the throttle and just be smart, then it shouldnt matter what kind of bike you get unless you are very small, then I recommend something like a 250cc. My first bike was 1100cc Honda Hurricane and was fine. Just hit a pothole at mild speeds and scared me and sold the bike. I wish I didnt. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Funny thing, a guy I know just bought a new Yamaha and he kept it all of 2 days. He's been riding all his life (He's ~ 60 I think) and he told me it scared the hell out of him being on a 600 bike with 146 horsepower.

Me, I'm only 130lbs and looking for a new bike. Since I have no plans of freeway driving and like the speed limit I bet I could fare with 250cc as well as 600cc.

What would you think about a bike like this?

EDIT: 6 month warranty? **** that.

looks interesting. but i was thinking more long the lines of a 600cc sport bike or cruser. speed is not an issue, but the ball and chain wants to ride also. so i gotta make sure there is enough power to move us both //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If you've got two people it means you're also going to be dragging other stuff, electronics, equipment, tools, food, etc. Now you're getting into heavier weight on the bike, and you need more bike to carry you. It's a much more comfortable ride if the bike can take you down the freeway at 70 and have the engine sound like it's totally not being strained at all. If it's just a commuter I'd consider a 750cc, or if it's a cross country freeway thing a bigger bike like an 1100cc Goldwing would be better.

It's a shame, but weight adds up very quickly on a bike. =\
