Striking Accord
A lumberjack woke up at 6 in the morning and worked all day cutting firewood, stopping only late at night. He had a beautiful son a few months old and a fox, his friend, treated as a pet and of his complete confidence. Every day the woodcutter would work and left the fox watching the baby. By nightfall, the fox was happy with his arrival.
His neighbors warned that the fox was beast, a wild animal, and therefore was not a reliable animal, and when it feel hungry it would eat the child. The woodsman said this was a great foolishness, because the fox was his friend and never would do that. The neighbors insisted: "Woodsman, open your eyes! The fox will eat your child. When it feels hungry it will eat your son!"
One day the woodcutter, exhausted from work and tired of these comments, came home and saw the fox smiling as always, with his mouth full blood. The lumberjack sweat cold and without thinking twice, hit an axe to the head of the fox. Desperate, came running inside the bedroom. He found his son in the cradle, sleeping quietly, and beside the cradle a dead snake.
The woodsman with much remorse buried the axe and fox together.
