A reminder about the rules here...

We dont have many rules here, but we expect the ones we do have to be obeyed. In the first 10 mins Ive been here this morning, Ive seen one person post ****** they knew violated a rule, and another person post the N word (whom I know understands well that is a rule violation).

We've been doing a lot better lately guys, but that is no excuse to push the boundaries and think the mods will slack off on the rules. I dont like being a hard ass, but I dislike even more when I have to waste my time daily deleting posts people made that knew they were breaking a rule. I have better things to do, as do all the other mods here. So Im posting this reminder that the rules are still here, still enforced, and my patience is wearing thin with people knowingly breaking them because they know we try to be lenient. I wont have my lenience taken advantage of. If I see one more person knowingly break a rule here because they think we will (at worst) just delete the post, I will be giving a ban (when an infraction would otherwise be given). And my nice-guy warnings of simply deleting the posts is over. Sorry, but I guess it has to be that way. Maybe after a time of things continuing to improve, I will slack off again. But until that time, you might as well consider me the ogre around here.

To everyone else who still abides by the (very few) rules we have here, I appreciate it. I know the vast majority of members here are good about the rules, I dont mean to give the impression I think otherwise. But you guys probably already understand why I feel the need to post this warning to others.

Lastly, this thread is not intended to debate those rules. No N word, no ******. Simple, easy to remember, and set in stone. Do not clutter this thread up with your personal opinion on those rules. Your opinion does not affect things one way or the other, so posting you think its unfair or wrong or whatever, is just a waste of keystrokes. The rules are what they are, they are being enforced, and if you dont like it, there are plenty of other websites with different rules.

Cheers.

The mods here are not paid, no. We are here voluntarily. Im not aware of any forum moderator that gets paid, although there are probably some out there (employees of companies who moderate a company forum, for example).

What exactly better do you have to do? Seeing as moderating a forum is doing just the things that you mentioned (deleting bad post etc...) I dont understand why you are bitching about doing your "job". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif This isnt to bust your balls, I'm being serious!

Im not sure how you cannot understand that there is an acceptable level of rule violations, and there is an unacceptable level.

When some members make it obvious they feel they can break a rule, because worst case scenario their post will simply be deleted in a few hours when a mod sees it, with no other consequence, then its clear that unacceptable level has been reached.

This is not me bitching about doing my "job", this is me trying to be reasonable and give fair warning to those members who require it. I feel this is more fair than to simply start banning people without letting them know enough is enough. Im sorry you just see it as me bitching about having to do my "job" though.

And again, none of us mods get paid or otherwise compensated in any way. So this is none of our's job.

I think the rules are good here and not hard to follow....however the classified section keeps getting me in trouble.

Those are the ones that seem vague like when I got banned for posting a link to an ebay auction where the seller had a BIN for less than he was asking for here. I still do not understand why that caused me to be banned for 7 days. It was the same seller with the same picture and everything.

Nothing like a good banning to let them know you're serious. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But seriously, this has been done over and over...Members break rules, mods post thread about how they are tired of the rules being broken, ban a few people and it starts over again next week. Just ban people that break the rules (within reason) and move on. No need for thread whining about rule breakers. Just do your duty as a mod and enforce the rules. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/spank.gif.0d78e34d42ea8780359e903aeb6697d6.gif

Im not the mod who banned you, so I cannot speak for them. But I can say that questioning someone's price in the thread is considered 'post dumping' in the classifieds. I understand that many times the person doing so means no harm, or even means to help a potential buyer. But the moderators cannot police intentions, only actions. So the simplest solution, which makes it the most feasible solution, is to not allow people to openly question pricing.

If you genuinely think the seller just doesn't realize their price is unreasonable/unrealistic, you are always welcome to PM the seller and discuss it. I feel that is a fair rule, as no sales establishment will allow strangers to publicly harass them about their price, at the place of business. Posting a reply in someone's f/s thread saying their price is too high would be akin to standing outside the front door of your local pawn shop, telling customers going in that their prices are too high. But (hopefully) the pawn shop owner would gladly take advice on his pricing, if he truly is mistaken, so long as that discussion was on a personal level. So again, just PM the guy.

Im sorry you are having trouble with the rules in the classifieds. We try to keep them simple and explained, but the classifieds do have the most rules of any section here. The posted rules do say: "Positive comments such as 'GLWS' are at the discretion of the seller. If the seller does not want comments unrelated to a transaction, even positive ones, they must specify it in the ad. Otherwise, non harassing comments are allowed. If a poster is unsure his comment will be viewed as harassing, dont post it." but I agree that after just looking over the posted rules there again, they dont specifically explain that you are not allowed to question pricing publicly. I'll post about that in the moderator section and see about getting it added as a description of post dumping.

I would like to suggest a exception to the classified rules...

If the OP has just 1 post and it is only to sell some really Overpriced Crappy Equipment, we should be allowed to make fun of them.

That seems fair to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That wouldn't work out. Ever heard of the phrase... "What is good for the goose is good for the gander." ?
