98 escort water pump

does anyone know how hard it is to change? i found a 98 escort for 500 that needs a new water pump and was just wondering how much work it is to replace

Unless there is something weird about Escorts, I wouldn't expect it to be much more than a Saturday afternoon driveway kind of job. All of the water pumps I've done haven't been a big ordeal.

A lot of older non-subframe, FWD cars, has the motor suspended across the fenders... Hence, a motor mount above the water pump. If this is the case, be smart... Get a flat piece of wood, as big as, if not slightly larger than, the lowest surface of the oil pan. Use a jack to hold the motor in place, (read: do NOT lift the motor). Then remove the motor mount, and life will be much easier.
