96 dodge ram stereo help

alright i just recently installed a cd player in my dads truck. he hasnt had a cd player in it for about 3 years and it looked horrible so i put one in.

now the speakers sound all distorted when barely turned up and dont get loud like they used to is there anything i could try to fix this?

what did he have in it before? stock? Some of the facrory systems had an amp on each door speaker, may have to run your own wires and bypass it
