92-94 Buick Roadmaster Radio Upgrade Help

Hi,

I have a Buick Roadmaster with the basic 90's GM radio, but I have a better looking unit with more features out of a Park Avenue that I'd like to swap in. Since they are both General Motors units from the same generation Buick, should I expect the swap to be plug and play? The stereo that I'm upgrading with did sometimes come in the Roadmaster from the factory, but just not in mine. So I know it will physically fit in the dash, I just don't know what to expect from the electrical side.

If the new unit doesn't just plug in and go, what would I need to buy or do to make it work? I've been looking around the Metra website and they have all kinds of plugs and harnesses, but I really have no idea what any of them do.

If they have the same connector it'll probably work. Could be issues with steering wheel controls and maybe with the data link if the car has one. Best to hit up the Buick forum

There's no steering-wheel controls on my car or the car I plan to pull the new radio out of. And... what is a data link?

i just did an install on a 92ish park ave and it came factory with an amp. not sure if that will effect what your trying to do.. side note, weirdest speakers i eva seen on that park ave/ new yorker...

My 99 Park Ave had a factory amp, but it was fed by standard speaker outputs from the HU so there's nothing to worry about there. The data link I mentioned is a serial interconnect that ties all the electronics to a computer for diagnostics purposes, but I think that started in about '97. You should be good to go if the connectors match.
