i have a 8w7 right now with a sealed enclosure im lookin at a 12w6 with a ported box is the 12 worth it or should buy a ported box for the 8. im running a ppi dcx 500/1 amp . will i notice a difference im looking for more spl than what i have now the heavy 8 is inpressive .

they are awsome . i saw that thing when i got it from ups and laughed cuz its so small looking but that f..... is awsome on sq and it makes some noise too.

12w6v2 all day long

I have a friend with a 8w7 ported with 400w to it and another friend wit ha 12w6v2 ported with 350 to it, the 12w6v2 sounds just as good and is tons louder all day long

12w6 is in a convertible mustang, the 8w7 is in a truck

Both are in recommended ported boxes. What's the RMS on that 8w7, if you dont mind me asking? I believe i'ts 350 rms, or something in there, I think 400 is sufficient.

400RMS rating on the 12w6v2, so it's fairly well powered

The truck is a little more open(ext cab) than the trunk of a convertible mustang, which is completely sealed off from the cabin on the mustang. Just making an observation and a statement here, my $0.02

The W7 never had a chance in the comparison. It simply couldn't keep up if it had 1000w on it. Here is a comparison. We had an '05 Cooper S with two systems in it. Both were powered by the DDC4's rear channels bridged to 4ohm mono to produce about 400wrms capability. Single (4ohm) 1008 ported in .75 cubic foot enclosure. 141.7dB on TL. Single (4ohm) 1012a ported in 2.2 cubic foot enclosure. 147.2dB on TL. In both instances the subs and vents were firing up. Both tuned to 44Hz with manufacturer recommended vent sizes for their respective enclosures.

Digital Designs and JL Audio are two entirely different things, but i understand what your showing (the 12 having a considerable difference in SPL)

if you switch to a 12 you will notice the output greatly, SQ may change but wont be to bad (may not even change at all) but you will get a hole lot more output.

I'll get you a magazine comparison from Australia with the 8W7 and the DD1008 if you'd like. Not an argument point, just out of friendship. Close enough by way of cone area for them to compare the two. Can you guess which one came out ontop, even with 700+w of power on the both of them?

Who gives a crap which one came out on top ? Obviously its going to be the DD since you think they are god. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Most sane people wouldnt send an 8" sub 700W.

I say go with the W6 simple because it has more cone area and has the ability to get louder.

I have a eD 12o and i just got a e8a. The 12o sealed is much louder than the e8a sealed. I will port it tomorrow but i still dont think it will have as much output as the 12o. Both require the same RMS wattage.

thanks guys thats what i was basicly wondering if the 12 would make that much of difference in spl and if it was worth the hasel.

Potential to get loud is equivalent to swept volume in a sealed system and cone area in a ported system (I know that there is more to it than that such as BL etc. but those are pretty much the prime indicators especially at lower powers). The 12W6v2 has more than tiwce the cone area of the 8W7 and almost twice the swept volume. It is louder. The 8W7 is amazing for what it is, an 8" sub, but it still will be humbled by a big bore sub in output.
